Some notation rules exist for writing music to make it easier to read the notes.
Notes on the 3rd line and above are written with the stem down. The notes below 3rd line are written with the stem up.
When two or more eight notes or shorter notes form beat they can be beamed together. The time signature indicates the beat and therefore how the notes should be beamed.
|Time||Beaming of eight notes|
|2/2||4 eight notes form the beat and are beamed together|
|2/4||2 eight notes form the beat are beamed together.|
|3/4||2 eight notes form the beat are beamed together. In 3/4 all the eight notes can be beamed together.|
|4/4||2 eight notes form the beat are beamed together. 4 eight notes can be beamed together if the go together on the 1. and 2. beat and 3. and 4. beat.|
|2/8||Since the beat is a single eight note beam may be skipped but all the eight notes can also be beamed|
